I am a former football player.  I never really enjoyed stretching.  Pilates has been a refreshing blend of a new type of movement for me.  The stretching and breathing exercises have helped me body structure tremendously.  My instructor, Sydney, has showed me that lengthening the body and strengthening the muscles along with increased flexibility can be attained.

Pilates has done wonders for my low back issues! After years of suffering from near constant pain and trying physical therapy, chiropractic and massages - and getting little or no relief - these past 3 months of twice weekly classes on the reformer has alleviated much of the pain. Pilates is not just about lying on the floor and doing a gazillion crunches to strengthen the core muscles - it's so much more! I feel stronger and have better posture. The individual attention received from the instructors has been extremely valuable. They are highly trained and knowledgeable about the muscular-skeletal system and receive updated training for themselves in order to pass along new and beneficial information and exercises to their students.

When I began Pilates, I had residual nerve damage/pain from shingles.  At the recommendation of my acupuncturist, I started Pilates.  When I asked him the best exercise I could do, one of his top 2 recommendations was Pilates.  He stated that Pilates was actually very good for one’s immune system.  I began to notice a difference almost immediately – not just in the residual pain from shingles, but a positive impact on my body.  I had been very active as a teenager and in my twenties, but had gradually become more or less a “couch potato” in my 30’s and 40’s – when I began to see muscle tone coming back, it was very exciting!  I personally have noticed that when I come to Pilates classes – either Reformer or Mat classes - at least 3 times a week, the improvement in my body (as well as my mental attitude – Pilates helps to keep me centered) is much quicker.

I have always been very impressed with the caliber of instructors at Pilates Tonic – Sydney and all her instructors are very knowledgeable and patient with their students.  I found the Pilates 101 class helpful as well, since it helps to know exactly which abdominal muscles to target – AND where my psoas is located and why I should keep on looking for it til I find it!

I would (and DO) recommend Pilates Tonic to all my friends and coworkers – am even trying to find a way for my Mom to come from LaFayette to take the classes – the staff is well grounded in Pilates, as well as helpful and courteous.
