It’s been a very big year at Pilates Tonic. In July, we got a beautiful new website, and then in August the studio got a complete makeover.
It’s taken us a couple months to get completely grounded and re-settled into the new space, but we have finally arrived and with a giant exhale and big smiles all around.
On top of all the physical changes going on in the studio, behind the scenes we’ve been learning a ton!

My approach to teaching has shifted and I’ve never been so excited about all the new possibilities we now have for helping you create better ways to move in your daily life.
And I know I’m not the only instructor at Pilates Tonic feeling inspired by what we’ve all been learning and about our work! We are all constantly learning and integrating new and fresh ideas and approaches.

Set Yourself Up for Mat Class Success – Mini-Private Sessions
(9:00 – 9:45 am)
When you take a mat class, you want to be sure you’re aligned and moving in ways that will maximize your results. Sometimes we aren’t doing an exercise correctly, but we don’t realize it and so we can be puzzled by its apparent ease or the fact that it didn’t seem to DO anything for us.
Alignment is the key to getting everything you can out of your mat class and you have to meet your current alignment boundaries where they are and then work from there to change them.
Props allow you to work at your current boundaries and eventually surpass them in a way that lasts.
In these 15-minute personal mini-sessions, we’ll work with you to find your hidden alignment problems and help you create a personal prop recipe so you get everything you possibly can from every mat class you take.
We only have six spots available for the private mini-sessions, but may be able to add more if it turns out to be a popular item. In other words, register early if you want to be sure you get a spot.

Restorative Movement & Hidden Kyphosis with Laurel
(10:00 – 11:00 am)
This class will help you bring awareness to the the pattern of rounding your upper spine, a problem shared by 99% of the population.
Due to modern-day conveniences like cars and grocery stores, we no longer move in ways that allow us to realize our fullest physical potential. Combine that with chronic staring at phones and tablets and slumping at our desks, and most of us now have an excessive curvature in the upper spine that we mask through “good” posture.
You’ll find out if you’re secretly rounding your spine and learn exercises that will give you a new level of awareness, improve your alignment and correct patterns that may be causing you long-term pain, or creating future dysfunction.
We all unconsciously think we know what good posture and alignment is, but it turns out that we’re frequently over-correcting or improperly correcting our posture.This can have some pretty negative and painful long-term effects since improper alignment and correction can cause both compression and joint damage.
In this class you’ll learn corrective exercise to restore and improve your posture and overall alignment. And you’ll have fun doing it!
Intro to the Monkey Gym with Will
(11:15 am – 12:15 pm)
The Monkey Gym class takes the safe spinal mechanics and fundamentals of Pilates and applies them to different strength building exercises using the rings, rope, chin-up bar and a variety of different mat exercises.
This class is for you if you want a higher-intensity class and want to feel like you got an good workout, but also a safe workout where form is of the utmost importance.
If you’ve heard of it already, but always been intimidated by the Monkey Gym, this is a great class for getting over your fear. You can try it with others who probably feel the same way you do.
You can get a great workout without the need for all the weights and props. Instead, you’ll use your own body weight alone to achieve powerful results. We can truly focus on your body’s weaknesses and strengthen them without being hampered by weights that can turn the wrong muscles on.
People are always feeling so terrible after workouts and that shouldn’t be the case. You should feel good in your mind, body, and soul after a great workout. You should be able to advance your physical abilities without eventually hurting yourself and taking an extended break that causes you to start back at square one.
In Monkey Gym, we can keep the higher intensity while zeroing in on why certain areas give you problems. We’ll work on fixing those problems for good.
This class is limited to 5 people to ensure individual attention.
Preparatory Movement with Ari
(12:30 – 1:30 pm)
Enhance every physical activity with exercises that show you how to use fascia release and kinetic movements to prepare for and improve your daily activities and specialized exercise routines.
In this class, you’ll learn to find and correctly activate the key connections within your body to help you move and grow stronger.
By first preparing your body for movement, you’ll discover a deeper understanding and connection to how you move in general and how you can improve your results in other areas.
You’ll learn how to move in an integrated, neutral way combining balance, flexibility, and stability. Once you have the techniques and awareness this class will help you develop, you’ll be poised to rapidly and safely take any activity or practice to the next level.
Aligning the body through preparatory movement will not only help your personal practice, whether that’s Pilates, yoga, running or mountain climbing, it will carry over into every aspect of your daily life.
Improve Your Balance Thru Active Alignment with Sydney
(1:45 – 2:45 pm)
This class will activate your glutes, give you better balance and improve knee, hip, pelvic floor and lower back health in order to restore your ease of movement and freedom in daily life and specialized activities.
First, we’ll help you find out if your glutes have gone to sleep! Don’t worry, most of us have sleepy, inactive glutes and lateral hip muscles and this class is the antidote to that. Plus, you’ll get better balance through major strengthening of the muscles related to the knee, hip, pelvic floor and lower back.
We will help you see the current state of alignment in your thigh bones and feet, and show you how these relate to your balance.
You have to learn how to be aware of your current patterns in order to improve your alignment and balance. We’ll help you develop this awareness and provide specific exercises which, when practiced consistently, have proven to improve balance and overall knee, hip, pelvic floor and lower back health.
Gravity is your body’s constant teacher. As you get older, so do the alignment faults you’ve unconsciously developed. Over time, these alignment faults make balance difficult and cause joints to wear out. This leads to inflammation, osteoporosis, pelvic floor dysfunction, joint dysfunction and, over time, more and more pain.
With awareness and these specialized exercises you will improve your balance and slow down, or even halt joint issues and, in some cases, potentially reverse them altogether.
This foundational class will help you improve the way you move through your daily life and help your specialized workouts and hobbies. Everything from putting on your pants without having to hold onto anything to enhancing intentional balance activities you practice like yoga, Pilates or Pure Barre.

Space is limited… Obviously we can’t have 50 people take one class and since these are all FREE and it’s an exciting day with lots going on, the classes may very well fill up REALLY fast.
